Southwest Monsoon entered Gujarat four days ago. But since then it has not been able to advance to other parts of the country due to adverse conditions. An official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) gave this information on Saturday.
Ahmedabad Meteorological Center scientist Ramashrai Yadav said the southwest monsoon hit Navsari in south Gujarat on June 11. But due to adverse circumstances it failed to progress. He said the southwest monsoon usually enters Gujarat on June 15 and advances to other parts including Ahmedabad and some parts of Saurashtra by June 20. By June 25, the monsoon will cover most parts of Saurashtra. It will cover entire Gujarat till June 30.
Meanwhile, the meteorological department has predicted light thunderstorms at isolated places in many districts of the state in the next five days. According to the forecast, heavy rains are expected in South Gujarat districts as well as neighboring Union Territories of Daman and Dadra and Nagar Haveli on June 19. Some areas received pre-monsoon rain on Friday and Saturday.
According to data released by the Gandhinagar-based State Emergency Operations Center (SOC), parts of Maharashtra and south Gujarat experienced rain and thundershowers on Saturday evening. The department said Griyadhar and Jessore in Bhavnagar district received 25 mm of rain between 4 pm and 6 pm on Saturday. While Amrli and Morbi in Saurashtra and Navsari, Valsad and Surat in the southern part of the state also received light rain.
