Without naming China, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said that we are not getting justice for the fish in the Indian Ocean region, where big fish eat small fish. He said this while visiting INS Jalashwa here to review the deployment of the Eastern Naval Command. It was Rajnath’s first visit after becoming the defense minister for the second time.
The Defense Minister said, ‘India will work together with its friendly countries in the Indian Ocean region and move forward with the spirit of Sarva Jan Hitai Sir Jan Suhai. He said the government’s focus would be on further strengthening India’s maritime security. It will make its naval presence in the Indian Ocean region more effective and stronger. He said that India will not allow the Indian Ocean region to become a fishing jurisdiction. The Indian Navy will ensure that no nation in the Indian Ocean region can suppress or crush the sovereignty or strategic autonomy of any other nation on the basis of its economic capability and military might.
Naval strength is necessary for sovereignty
Rajnath said that the country’s interest is closely related to its maritime security. Strong maritime security is the strength of a country’s sovereignty. The growing strength of the Indian Navy ensures the security of the maritime border. Alongside security, the country has wider interests in the Indian Ocean region. Trade takes place on a large scale through this sector. Our business interests are related to this. India is a major stakeholder in the fishing and mining activities taking place in the region. In such a situation, the Indian Navy is not only a means of securing the maritime border but also a means of serving our wider national interests.
