The long-promised Woodroy-Solange Hospital is set to open in 2026, but before it opens, the hospital needs staff and volunteers.
A big recruiting campaign is underway.
The hospital is still under construction but the patients are expected to walk through the doors in two years, leaving many to wonder who will take care of them?
According to the regional health authority, more than 4,800 employees, managers, doctors and volunteers are needed.
University of Montreal professor Regis Blais says it will be a big challenge, given the state of the health care system and the lack of manpower.
“Ultimately, it’s going to be difficult to recruit unless we go to other jurisdictions, quite often counties in other states, but to recruit 5,000 people, it’s going to be difficult and no staff can be duplicated yet,” Blais said.
CISSS de la Montérégie-Ouest says extraordinary measures are needed to attract a lot of talent and that recruitment has already begun – even internationally.
Melanie Jinac, president of the Monterrey-Aust-FIQ Professionals Association, said recruitment was already a major challenge for the region. Currently, there is a shortage of about 1,600 workers.
