Prime Minister Shahbaz ordered the construction of a health tower in Islamabad Achi-News

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday directed the authorities concerned to construct an international-level health tower in the federal capital that would house hospitals, medical and nursing universities, modern laboratories and diagnostic centers.

The Prime Minister, chairing a meeting to examine the issues related to the Ministry of National Health Services, instructed to formulate a strategy for the construction of the aforementioned tower through the public-private partnership.

Emphasizing the significant responsibility of the health sector to save human lives, the Prime Minister expressed his concerns about the new polio cases reported in the country and resolved the elimination of the disease by utilizing total resources in collaboration with partners.

He also called for a third-party audit of laboratories operating under the authority of the Ministry of National Health, besides the appointment of qualified health professionals in the ministry and its departments.

Prime Minister Shehbaz vowed to personally monitor health-related issues, and also ordered a third-party audit of the Pakistan Medicines Control Authority and the formulation of a strategy to decentralize drug processing from the authority.

Besides, he also directed the outsourcing of the human resource of all government hospitals in Islamabad and their waste treatment plants, besides the audit of nursing schools and colleges across the country.

During the briefing, the Prime Minister was informed that a national policy of blood transfusion and blood products will soon be implemented, and the work on a nursing and midwifery policy framework is in the final stage.

It was reported that an evening shift is customary in nursing colleges to increase the number of graduates. Moreover, work has begun on a revised National Action Plan 2025-30 to control population growth.

When the Prime Minister was informed about the installation of new healthcare equipment worth 711 million rupees in Islamabad’s hospitals, he directed the third-party audit of the purchase of the said equipment.

It was reported that a modern hospital management system will be installed in the hospitals of Islamabad and that waste management plants are operating in the five public sector hospitals and the four private hospitals in the capital city.

The participants of the meeting were informed that a strategy for the production of insulin in Israel is being formed.

The prime minister was also informed about the plans to produce different types of vaccines in the country, the construction of plasma dissolution centers and a pharma park, and the supply of machinery and equipment to the tertiary hospitals in Quetta.

It said a 50-bed hospital would be set up in Muskhal, a tertiary and headquarters hospital in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and an institute of medical sciences and a Danish hospital in Gilgit Baltistan.

Federal Ministers Ahsan Iqbal and Ahad Khan Cheema, Prime Minister’s Coordinators Malik Mukhtar Ahmed and Rana Ahsan Afzal and relevant senior officers attended the meeting.
