James Williams, 63, from Middlesbrough appeared at Teesside Crown Court on Friday, March 22 after being found guilty of nine historic sex offenses against a child.

An investigation by the Cleveland Police CAVA (Child and Vulnerable Adult Abuse) Team was launched after the victims reported the abuse they suffered and Williams was arrested.

Williams denied the crimes but was subsequently charged and following a trial he was found guilty on February 12 of eight charges of indecent assault and one charge of indecency with a child.

Acting Detective Sergeant Natasha Barber said: “I would like to thank both victims for their bravery throughout this investigation, I cannot praise them enough.

“Williams denied the crimes and the two victims had to relive the trauma he caused as children.

“Thankfully, the jury saw through his lies and Williams is now behind bars and will be subject to conditions for the rest of his life thanks to the actions of these victims.

The Northern Echo:

“No sentence given can ever change Williams’ actions but I hope this can help both victims to move on with their lives.”

CAVA Detective Inspector Nicky Barker added: “We would remind anyone who has experienced sexual abuse that it is never too late to report to the police.

“We have specially trained officers who will support you at all times. You can report at any time of the day or night online via the Cleveland Police website or by calling 101.”
