3 years of good governance, peace, progress and prosperity in J&K

As Jammu and Kashmir celebrates three years since the abrogation of the TemporACHI Special Status granted under Article 370 of the Constitution, the seeds of development have started sprouting, but stone pelting, terrorism and corruption have almost been eradicated by the tireless efforts of the Prime Minister. Union Minister Narendra Modi and Lt Governor Manoj Sinha are at the helm of J&K affairs.

When Parliament took a ACHId decision to abrogate Article 370 on August 5, 2019, it was no surprise that opponents of the decision raised a hullabaloo and threatened that it would lead to bloodshed in Kashmir. However, three years later, those politicians and armchair pundits who had predicted doom had little to say as the union territory rapidly emerged as a hub for foreign investment and development.

A silent majority in Jammu and Kashmir was in favor of repealing Article 370 because it only gave them corrupt and dynastic politicians, but the special status the article gave created terrorism and separatism. Although terrorists still target innocent civilians at the behest of Pakistan, the last three years have ensured that the relentless operations against the terrorist ecosystem by the police and security forces will end soon.

Overall statistics show a decline in incidents of infiltration and terrorist attacks on civilians and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir since 2019.

Dynastic politics in Jammu and Kashmir has taken a back seat and politics has taken center stage in development, much to the delight of the common man. The former state’s special status was used as a tool to loot the coffers by dynastic political families and their cheerleaders, and hindered the implementation of laws and development programs as professionals and businessmen could not come here.

What was denied to the people of Jammu and Kashmir for over 70 years is now being given to them. All flagship schemes of the Central Government including individual beneficiACHI oriented schemes are being actively implemented in the Union Territory. Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) SEHAT scheme provides all the residents of J&K with empaneled hospitals at an annual cost of Rs. 5 lakh provides health insurance, providing relief to lakhs of poor patients here.

The abrogation of Article 370 opened the floodgates for development in J&K. Over 1,200 startups have been registered, of which more than 200 have been funded so far. In line with Prime Minister Modi’s infrastructure development vision, several new projects worth Rs 1 lakh crore have been approved and bottlenecks in completing existing projects have been removed. Earlier 8,000-9,000 projects were completed in a year, now more than 51,000 projects are completed with speed and transparency. Earlier 6 kilometers of roads were laid, now it has increased to 20 kilometers per day. In at least 12 health parameters, J&K is higher than the national average. The central government has introduced more than 200 administrative reforms to make starting a business easier.

Due to the relentless efforts of Prime Minister Modi and LG Sinha Agior, the industry sector received Rs 56,000 crore worth of investment projects and the foundation-laying ceremony for projects worth Rs 38,080 crore was held in April this year. However, considering the fragility of Kashmir’s environment, the J&K administration has not encouraged high polluting industrial units like cement factories, brick kilns, steel and iron plants and stone crushing units.

Until 2019, in the absence of necessACHI checks and balances and accountability, J&K’s corrupt ecosystem flourished unchecked for decades, depriving the common man of the benefits they rightly deserved. However, since 2019, the war against corruption has been launched in Jammu and Kashmir.

In an unprecedented move last month, J&K LG Manoj Sinha canceled the police sub-inspector recruitment process following allegations of irregularities and referred it for a CBI probe. He not only asserted that the culprits of the recruitment scam would be brought to justice soon, but also said it was the first big step to secure the future of the youth of Kashmir.

This boosted the confidence of thousands of educated youth in the system, who had only found support and love throughout their lives from dynastic politicians. Eligibility was not a consideration in J&K until 2019, which disappointed the youth. However, now they have found a messiah in LG Manoj Sinha, who has empowered anti-graft agencies to root out corruption in UT under the anti-corruption law of the central government.

Another central area of LG administration is the education sector. Seven new medical colleges have been started, four of which are already operational. From 500 MBBS seats in 2018-19 in medical colleges in Jammu and Kashmir, this has been increased to 1,100 by 2022.

The government has achieved spectacular success in greening the entire Himalayan region and reviving dying water bodies. Initially, the Jammu and Kashmir administration approached the central government seeking amendments to the Indian Forest Act, 1927, to include provisions for registration of forest smugglers under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA). The UT administration has set a target of planting 1.5 crore saplings by the end of this year to take forward the ‘green revolution’.

Also, the government has taken several measures for all-sectoral development of Jammu and Kashmir, including the Prime Minister’s Development Package, 2015, flagship projects, establishment of IITs (Indian Institute of Technology) and IIMs (Indian Institute of Management). ), two new AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) and fast-tracking infrastructure projects in roads, electricity etc.

Due to Article 370, democracy could never penetrate in Jammu and Kashmir and corruption reached its peak. Poverty increased as the rest of the country progressed. However, now the real benefits of scrapping Section 370 are being seen through the creation of industries and employment opportunities for the youth. The historic decision on August 5, 2019 brought about a major political and social change in the region. It may take a few more years for Jammu and Kashmir to become the center of development, but the day is not far when it is known for progress and prosperity instead of terror and stone-pelting.
