Bug Dogs: The Railway Protection Police of the North East Frontier Railway have continued operations against the carrying of prohibited drugs in trains. During the period between September 1 and 15, 2024, contraband worth more than Tk 26.48 lakh was recovered. During this period the RPF also arrested nine people for their alleged involvement in transporting contraband/stolen goods.

In an incident on September 02, 2024, the RPF and GRP from Lamding jointly searched Train No. 01666 (Agartala-Rani Kamlapati) Special at Lamding Railway Station and seized 19.7 grams of brown sugar worth Rs.3.94 lakh (approx.) and 1.81 lakh (approx) four persons were arrested with 18.10 kg of ganja worth Rs. Arrested persons along with recovered material are handed over to OC/GRP/Lamding for further legal action.N. F. Railway RPF recovered contraband/stolen goods worth over Rs 23.50 crore between January and August 2024.
During this period RPF also arrested 283 suppliers for illegally transporting prohibited/stolen goods. Earlier, the railway security forces of the North East Frontier Railway recovered contraband worth more than 16.7 lakh rupees and arrested 17 people. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the North East Frontier Railway is reported to be conducting continuous operations against the transportation of contraband through railways.

According to railway sources, in March, the North East Frontier Railway RPF seized contraband worth more than 16.7 lakh rupees at Agartala, Dimapur, Bagdogra, Rangia and Kishanganj railway stations, against the transportation of contraband in trains. During this operation, they recovered a total of 167 kg of cannabis and arrested 17 people in this connection. Those arrested along with the seized items were handed over to the concerned OC/GRP or local police station for further action In one incident a team of Agartala RPF raided the Agartala railway station and identified some of the suspects with bags.
After opening the bag, about 48 kg of ganja worth about Tk 4.80 lakh was recovered from it. Six people were arrested in connection with the incident. Later, the arrested people along with the recovered ganja were handed over to Agartala GRP, according to North East Frontier Railway sources, strict vigilance is being maintained to prevent smuggling or movement of contraband on railways. In particular, contraband worth crores of rupees has been recovered by surprise visits in several trains.
