Mahasamund Lok Sabha seat of Chhattisgarh is a very important seat from cultural, historical and archaeological point of view. It has been a Congress stronghold since its inception. But in the last three elections, BJP has scored a hat-trick of victories here. The most interesting was the 2014 election when 11 candidates named Chandu were in the fray from this seat, yet BJP’s Chandalal Sahu managed to win the election and former chief minister Ajit Joji, who was accused of fielding 10 independents named Ch. Nedo, was 1217 years old. The election was lost by votes. Apart from BJP-Congress, 19 independent candidates were also in the fray in this election.
