1 Million People Below Poverty Line, Pakistan Fails to Meet Economic Goals: World Bank Achi-News

Puber pen, webdesk: One million people in Pakistan are at risk of falling below the poverty line. This information was reported by the World Bank on Wednesday. International organizations fear that Pakistan’s weak economic growth rate is struggling with rising inflation. Inflation in the country rose to around 26 percent this year.

In the report, the World Bank said that Pakistan has failed to meet almost all of its major economic targets. Pakistan will fall behind the initial budget target. The country will be in international deficit for 3 consecutive years. 40 percent of the people will be below the poverty line. Economic growth will drop to 1.8%.

Meanwhile, the World Bank has expressed concern that the number of children attending school may decrease due to the increase in the cost of daily living. According to them, flood prone areas like Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, Baluchistan will suffer more from poverty. The prevalence of food insecurity is also said to increase from 29 to 32 percent.
